Local Organizations Working Together

Today we had Emma Wright from Sunshine Coast Basket Brigade tell us more about this very worthwhile group of dedicated volunteers spreading some Christmas cheer to the less fortunate in our community. The SCBB collect and sort donations from the public and other organizations, and deliver them to families in need.

A perfect example of clubs working together.

Our members were encouraged to either bring along goods, or purchase a Lion’s Christmas Cake or pudding to donate. This has the added benefit of the proceeds going to Buderim Lions, and therefore back into our local community. A great example of local community groups working together to look after those in our community who are less fortunate.

Local Police Discuss Ice Epidemic

This week we were grateful to have Senior Constable Aaron Caldwell from the Buderim Police Beat address our meeting. Aaron’s presentation about the growing ice epidemic was both informative and confronting. The list of chemicals found in these drugs, such as drain-cleaner, paint thinnner, acetate etc, is horrifying, but what is more horrifying is the fact that people are prepared to introduce these poisons into their bodies initially, and then unable to stop. Apart from the tragedy of the addicts, their families and their victims, the cost to our society is enormous. It is an insidious scourge with a massive impact, effecting people from all demographics and all ages.

RACQ Lifeflight visit

What a great visit we had to the RACQ Lifeflight hangar on Friday. The presentation was fascinating & the BBQ lunch enjoyed by all.

I think we were all amazed at how much this invaluable service is utilized; not just in emergency calls to rural areas, but anywhere an emergency evacuation is required & a land-based ambulance is either not feasible or too slow. So many people owe their well-being, or even their lives, to these amazing crew.

An enlightening & enjoyable vocational visit.

Mary Valley Rattler Trip

What a great way to spend a Sunday! A small turn-out from the club due to illness & travel, but that didn’t detract from the day.

So relaxing to chug through the beautiful Mary Valley on this wonderfully restored old steam train. The staff (all volunteers) on the train & at the stations, were friendly, entertaining & knowledgeable. These guys certainly deserve a pat on the back for their devotion. Well done!
