OCTOBER ’24

ROTARY CLUB of BUDERIM

In 2010 one of our original members, Graeme Ensoll, built Buderim Rotary’s BBQ Trailer, & the old girl has served our community well. However, to maintain her dignity, an overhaul was badly in need. With some much-appreciated financial help from the Buderim Foundation, the boys tallied forth & under the watchful eye of Graeme Ensoll, the old girl is now a sight to behold.  When you see the Big Blue Block dashing around town, know that Buderim Rotary is on their way to raise funds to help our community.  Come & see her on the 9th Nov at the BWMCA Hall Centenary celebrations as we BBQ up some of our delicious hamburgers.

We’ve certainly been getting our fair share of Bunnings BBQs lately, & rest assured those who enjoyed our snags, your money is going to some very worthy causes:  it has been decided to renew our sponsorship of our 2 Story Dogs.  We love this program as it is such a practical, hands-on experience for our local children to assist them with their literacy & increase their self-esteem. Rotary International is promoting ‘Say No to Domestic Violence’, & our club believes that improving the self-esteem & self-confidence of young people will go a long way to addressing the issue.

Our Youth Officer is currently canvassing local schools to offer financial support to local students who would like to participate in our youth enrichment program, RYPEN, & the National Youth Science Forum.  RYPEN is a weekend camp for children aged 15-17 where participants develop their potential through a mixture of lecture-style sessions & adventure- based learning. It is designed for those students who just need a bit of a push & a confidence boost to start achieving their full potential. NYSF is a program designed to inspire young Australians to value science, technology, engineering & maths & their importance to our communities.  Buderim Rotary sponsors these participants each year & it is always very rewarding when, on their return, they come along to our club meeting & share their experience with us.  Invariably they class the programs as ‘life-changing’.

Our Club proudly sponsored Buderim Mountain SS Robotics Team as they participated in the various Robotics challenges at a local & national level.  We welcomed Craig Johnson, who runs the program at the school, as our Guest Speaker on Friday to tell us more about the program.

Socially we’ve been very active as usual:  a Barefoot Bowls inter-club challenge followed by dinner; 10 of the lady’s enjoying lunch at Red Sea; evening fish & chips at The Spit.  And on the horizon, lunch at The Spit, BBQ lunch at Harry’s park, &, of course, our Christmas Party which is always well-attended.

Planning is well underway for next year’s Australia Day celebrations in Buderim Village Park.  Mark your calendars for an afternoon of great music, delicious street food, facepainting, community displays, & arguably the best fireworks on the coast.

Buderim Rotary Club is always in need of new members, so if you fancy getting more involved with your community, helping those in need & making great friends, pop along to one of our Friday lunchtime meetings at Buderim Tavern function room.  You’ll be warmly welcomed.
