ROTARY CLUB OF BUDERIM

People generally join Rotary because they want to ‘do good’, whether it be in their local community or across the world; therein lies The Power of Rotary: a number of motivated people with a shared vision.  This past month has seen Buderim Rotary ‘in action’.

The Rotary Club of Buderim is a proud contributor to The Rotary USC Community Fund (RUSCCF).  The fund was established in 1996-97 and first awarded in 2001 by the combined Rotary Clubs of the Sunshine Coast. Rotary Postgraduate Scholarships are awarded annually to students who have completed their undergraduate degree at UniSC and have enrolled and commenced postgraduate studies at either the Master or Doctorate levels at UniSC. To date, the combined clubs have contributed more than $210,000 to the Fund and have awarded 62 scholarships to UniSC students. The Scholarships are valued at $4,500 each and three scholarships are awarded each year.  Buderim Rotary is a proud ‘Gold Sponsor’ of the fund, meaning we have contributed more than $10,000, and this month saw us once again contributing.

We continue cooking our fortnightly BBQ Breakfasts for the Maroochy Neighborhood Centre as they assist those people on The Coast who are really struggling.  Last week’s breakfast saw a substantial increase in the number of people enjoying the burgers.

The Centre also put out a call for baking ingredients for their twice-weekly dinners they provide, and within a couple of days, Buderim Rotary was there with a plentiful supply of goods.  Again, an example of the Rotary ethos of ‘Service Above Self.’

The Club also continues helping the Buderim Mountain State School with their breakfasts for the students.

The work the club does is a great way of being involved in our local community, while having plenty of laughs and socializing along the way.  If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, we are always looking for new members.  To find out more, go to our website, rotaryclubofbuderim.com, or our Facebook page to see what we’re all about, and maybe contact us to come along to one of our lunchtime meetings at the Buderim tavern on a Friday.
